In September:

JSCA To Publish Book on Experiences in Innovation

As most Latin American nations continue to implement judicial reform processes, there is a need to generate shared knowledge of experiences, achievements and lessons learned in order to resolve or overcome common problems and facilitate future interventions in these important transformations.

The Justice Studies Center of the Americas (JSCA) is preparing to release print and virtual versions of the publication Reformas Procesales en América Latina: Experiencias de Innovación. The initiative is being sponsored by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA).

This is the second volume that the Center has published on innovative experiences. The book describes seven experiences in various areas of justice, both criminal and non-criminal. Section One addresses innovative experiences with the transformation of the criminal justice system.

The papers included document the process of implementing a hearing management model in Guatemala; the reform process in Argentina’s Chubut Province; and changes implemented by the Public Prosecutor’s Office in the City of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Section Two includes four papers that document experiences with innovation and change in areas other than criminal justice. The first describes the introduction of oral procedures in Costa Rica and the other three refer to reforms implemented in Chile over the past few years, specifically, the new Family Courts in Santiago; the new labor justice model; and the use of alternative outcomes in cases involving intra-family or domestic violence.

A pdf version of the document will be made available at www.cejamericas.org during the second half of September.
