Juan Enrique Vargas Viancos

Chilean, Attorney at Law with Master’s Degree in Management and Public Policy from the University of Chile. In 2000 he was named the first Executive Director of the Justice Studies Center of the Americas. He teaches law at the School of Law of the Diego Portales University and is the past Director of that university’s Legal Studies Research Program (1999-2000). He has regularly consulted on judicial reform projects in Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela since 1993. He was the Director of the Judicial Development Center of the University Promotion Corporation from 1991 to 1997 and Advisor to the Chilean Ministry of Justice from 1990 to 1998. He participated in the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in 1990 and in the Human Rights Program of the Academy of Christian Humanism from 1986-1989. He is the author of numerous publications on law and the judicial system.
